Key Highlights:

Volvo Group and BMS College of Engineering (BMSCE), Basavanagudi, opened the BMSCE-Volvo Group Centre for Flexible Material Research, marking a significant step toward encouraging innovation through academia-industry partnership.

The Centre was established through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed in 2023 between Volvo Group India and BMSCE. This collaboration has resulted in the development of innovative Flexible Material Testing Rigs, which are critical to Volvo's ongoing digital transformation projects.

It will act as an interface for ground-breaking research, promoting creative ideas, and developing future engineers. Volvo Group will use the lab for internal research and testing, with BMSCE leading academic research in the field.

The collaboration has already developed four advanced testing equipment to assess the behavior and features of cables and hoses, ranging from high-voltage EV cables to safety-critical hoses.

These machines, which specialize on axial, bending, and torsion, as well as a novel Simulation Co-relation Rig, are intended to considerably improve Volvo's material research and testing accuracy.

Kamal Bali, President and Managing Director of Volvo Group India, stated, "Our relationship with BMSCE for Flexible Material Research demonstrates this belief. Working closely with academic partners allows us to cultivate breakthrough ideas, develop future talent, and push research that is critical to our sustainable path."

Maria Ebbesson, Site Chairperson of Volvo Group Technology (GTT) India, said, "This Centre demonstrates our commitment to bridging industry and academia. Every invention corresponds with our strategic goals, and this partnership will push the boundaries of material science."
