In a significant development, Ashok Leyland, the Indian flagship of the Hinduja Group and a leading commercial vehicle manufacturer in India, has commenced the construction of a new integrated commercial vehicle plant in Uttar Pradesh.
The groundbreaking ceremony took place at the factory site on Kanpur Road, Lucknow. The auspicious event witnessed the unveiling of the foundation plaque and the laying of the foundation stone by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, symbolizing the beginning of a transformative journey in the region's industrial landscape.

Greenfield Manufacturing Facility
The new facility will be spread over an expansive 70 acres and is designed to be Ashok Leyland’s most modern and environmentally friendly factory worldwide. Equipped with cutting-edge manufacturing technology, it aims to deliver world-class quality standards.
Focus on Clean Mobility
The primary focus of this plant will be the production of electric buses, aligning with the growing demand for sustainable transportation. Additionally, the facility will have the capability to manufacture other vehicles powered by existing and emerging alternate fuels.

Capacity and Expansion Plans
Initially, the plant will have the capacity to produce 2,500 vehicles per year. However, Ashok Leyland plans to ramp up production to 5,000 vehicles annually over the next decade, anticipating the continued surge in demand for electric and other types of vehicles. It will focus primarily on producing electric buses while being adaptable to manufacture vehicles powered by existing and emerging alternative fuels.
Net Zero Emissions Goals
Dheeraj Hinduja, Executive Chairman of Ashok Leyland, expressed optimism about the project’s impact on employment opportunities and sustainable mobility in India. He emphasized the company’s commitment to driving innovation and achieving Net Zero emissions goals.
Shenu Agarwal, MD & CEO of Ashok Leyland, highlighted that the facility would not only address the rising demand for electric vehicles but also contribute to the holistic development of the region.
This milestone marks a new chapter for Ashok Leyland in Uttar Pradesh, reinforcing its position as a leader in the commercial vehicle industry and a champion of green mobility.
