Initially, State Transport Undertakings (STUs) used to acquire buses based on the lowest price, but they are now "getting smarter" and considering the whole operating cost over the next ten years. This advanced technology reduces harmful emissions and enhances fuel efficiency, providing a win-win scenario for both the environment and cost-conscious consumers.
This has assisted Ashok Leyland in expanding its position in this market, with customers such as the Andhra Pradesh STU, Tamil Nadu State Transport Undertaking, and many more, placing orders based on the total cost of ownership, particularly for BS6 vehicles. The use of sensors and other devices such as iALERT makes mileage calculation easier.
Ashok Leyland is also concentrating on intermediate, smaller, and medium-sized school buses and employee transportation. From a 15% market share, it is now aiming for a 25%-30% market share in this arena, which will do wonders for brand memory.
The order signifies a positive step forward in the growth and development of public transportation in Tamil Nadu. This contract demonstrates Ashok Leyland's dedication to technological advancements and its commitment to delivering reliable and efficient vehicles. The new fleet of buses will enhance the comfort of travel for passengers across the state.
