After this pilot project, a comprehensive report will be presented to ARAI, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, and the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. This report will help to create a road map for the commercialization of the fuel. With ethanol abundantly available in India, the project aims to establish a 7% ethanol blend in diesel to cut the country's energy bills.
Hero MotoCorp's Centre of Innovation and Technology (CIT) in Jaipur has developed a Flex-Fuel Prototype. The vehicle can run on ethanol-blended petrol mixes ranging from 20% (E20) to 85% (E85). It is powered by a 125cc BS6 engine,
The Flex-Fuel Prototype detects the ethanol blend in the fuel and adjusts engine control parameters appropriately, resulting in a trouble-free riding experience. Across the whole blend range, the engine's performance and emissions remain unaffected.
The activities of BPCL, Ashok Leyland, and Hero MotoCorp are key landmarks in India's journey toward a greener and more sustainable future, aligned with the Government of India's objective to promote renewable fuel technologies, reduce carbon emissions, and support economic stability.
