The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways receives a substantial allocation of Rs 2.78 lakh crore, while the Ministry of Railways is allocated Rs 2.55 lakh crore.

In Budget 2024, the Central government has increased the capital expenditure outlay for the next financial year by 11.1% to Rs 11,11,111 crore, marking 3.4% of the GDP, according to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

Allocations for Major Ministries

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways receives a substantial allocation of Rs 2.78 lakh crore, while the Ministry of Railways is allocated Rs 2.55 lakh crore. This increase in spending is expected to boost infrastructure development, which will drive demand for the commercial vehicle and construction equipment industry.

Three Major Economic Railway Corridor Programs

Sitharaman outlined three major economic railway corridor programs, focusing on energy, mineral, and cement corridors, port connectivity corridors, and high-traffic density corridors. These projects, identified under PM Gati Shakti, aim to enhance multi-modal connectivity, logistics efficiency, and cost reduction.

Vande Bharat Standards for Rail Safety and Comfort

As part of the development initiatives, 40,000 normal rail bogies will be converted to Vande Bharat standards. This conversion aims to improve safety, convenience, and comfort for passengers.

Accelerating GDP Growth and Reducing Logistic Costs

The Finance Minister emphasized that the dedicated freight corridors, along with the economic corridor programs, will play a pivotal role in accelerating GDP growth and reducing logistic costs.
