The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) released vehicle sales data for FY'25. In FY '25, the Indian commercial vehicle market saw mixed results for different brands. Tata Motors experienced a decline in both sales and market share, while Mahindra & Mahindra showed improvement. Other brands like Ashok Leyland, VE Commercial Vehicles, Maruti Suzuki, and Force Motors also showed different trends.
Commercial Vehicle Retail Sales in FY25: Category-Wise Breakdown
Here’s a breakdown of the Commercial Vehicle Retail Sales in FY25:
Commercial Vehicles (CV): In FY'25, the commercial vehicle market saw a slight decline of 0.17%, with total sales reaching 10,08,623 units, down from 10,10,324 units in FY'24.
Light Commercial Vehicles (LCV): The light commercial vehicle segment experienced a small increase of 0.21%, with sales rising to 5,63,189 units in FY'25 from 5,62,026 units in FY'24.
Medium Commercial Vehicles (MCV): The medium commercial vehicle segment saw a notable growth of 6.05%, selling 77,568 units in FY'25, up from 73,142 units in FY'24.
Heavy Commercial Vehicles (HCV): The heavy commercial vehicle category faced a decline of 4.07%, with sales dropping to 3,12,892 units in FY'25 from 3,26,150 units in FY'24.
Others: The "Others" category saw the highest growth of 12.18%, reaching 54,974 units in FY'25 compared to 49,006 units in FY'24.
OEM-wise Commercial Vehicle Retail Sales in FY25
Here’s an overview of the brand-wise sales performance:
Tata Motors sold 3,37,439 units in FY'25, down from 3,60,591 units in FY'24. Its market share also dropped from 35.69% to 33.46%.
Mahindra & Mahindra improved with 2,57,447 units sold in FY'25 compared to 2,41,857 units in FY'24. Its share increased from 23.94% to 25.52%.
Ashok Leyland had a small drop in sales from 1,68,164 units to 1,67,465 units in FY'25, keeping its market share stable at around 16.6%.
VolvoEicher Commercial Vehicles grew slightly, selling 75,986 units in FY'25, up from 74,451 units in FY'24. Its share increased from 7.37% to 7.53%.
Maruti Suzuki increased its sales from 42,667 to 45,470 units in FY'25, and its market share went up from 4.22% to 4.51% in FY'25.
Daimler India (BharatBenz) sold 20,795 units in FY'25, a small drop from 21,276 units in FY'24, with its share dipping from 2.11% to 2.06% in FY'25.
Force Motors did better this year, selling 19,689 units in FY'25, up from 16,857 units in FY'24. The company's share rose from 1.67% to 1.95%.
SML Isuzualso improved, with sales rising from 10,675 to 11,816 units in FY'25 and market share increasing from 1.06% to 1.17%.
Other brands sold 72,516 units in FY'25, slightly less than the 73,786 units in FY'24. Their overall share also dropped from 7.30% to 7.19%.
FADA President Mr. C S Vigneshwar shared his thoughts on auto retail performance for FY 2025. He said, "FY'25 showed how flexible and strong India’s auto retail sector is. Commercial vehicle sales stayed almost the same, with a small decline of 0.17%. This highlights how things like weather changes, financing issues, festivals and changing customer preferences can affect demand."
