Daimler Buses has taken a strategic step to advance its electrification goals by acquiring a 49% stake in SINOS GmbH, a software company based in Regensburg. This move strengthens Daimler Buses commitment to building an integrated and sustainable public transport system.
SINOS specializes in intelligent charging management for electric city bus fleets. With this investment, Daimler Buses aims to enhance its ability to offer smart, efficient, and scalable digital solutions for public transport operators. SINOS’s software optimizes real-time charging, ensuring electric buses charge during low energy demand periods, reducing costs for operators.
Since 2022, Daimler Buses has been incorporating SINOS’s platform into its electrification offerings. The platform is already used by over 20 transport operators across Europe.
The SINOS platform goes beyond charging optimization. It also helps with depot digitalization, enabling operators to track bus positions within depots and improve vehicle operations. These advanced capabilities align with Daimler Buses goal of creating a fully digital and efficient public transport ecosystem.
This acquisition also supports the broader mission of Daimler Buses Solutions GmbH, a subsidiary that focuses on end-to-end electrification projects. From electric buses to hydrogen solutions, infrastructure planning, and digital fleet management, Daimler Buses Solutions GmbH provides a comprehensive solution for transitioning to CO₂-free bus operations.
Daimler Buses is pushing forward with its dual electrification strategy, developing both battery-electric and hydrogen fuel cell technologies. The Mercedes-Benz eCitaro electric bus has been in production since 2018, and the company plans to launch more electric buses, including the Mercedes-Benz eIntouro intercity bus, in 2026.
By 2030, Daimler Buses aims to offer only CO₂-free electric or hydrogen models across all bus segments in Europe and Latin America. The company’s European city bus segment will see even stricter goals, with a shift to CO₂-free models by 2030 and the complete transition to CO₂-free buses in Europe by 2039.
