Daimler India Boosts Spare Parts Sales with AI Solution 'Vruddhi'

Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV), a subsidiary of Germany's Daimler Truck AG, increased spare-parts sales by two to three times after introducing an AI-based solution. The technology, known as Vruddhi, works by continuously monitoring the truck population, assessing retention rates, and calculating demand based on vehicle usage patterns.

Satyakam Arya, Managing Director and CEO of DICV, said that the company's aftermarket business is benefiting significantly from the improved forecasting accuracy, including a 20% increase in the company's capacity to deliver components on time.

Vruddhi's predictive powers are derived from its capacity to continuously evaluate the truck population, estimate retention rates, and calculate demand based on vehicle usage patterns. 

By factoring for company seasonality, the system provides accurate demand estimates, allowing DICV to better manage inventory and maximize on upsell possibilities. 

"It also provides upsell chances. It allows us to identify which customers are late for workshops. So that we can approach them and thereby generate demand for our components." Arya explained.

Arya stated that customer retention after the warranty period is over 80%, in contrast to the commercial vehicle sector average of 30%. Retention in the CV sector refers to the percentage of consumers who continue to utilize the manufacturer's services after their initial warranty has expired.

The previous statistical technique examines historical data, prioritizing recent data to create more accurate predictions. However, the versatility of AI-driven models such as Vruddhi allows for a more dynamic approach, improving forecast accuracy and optimizing aftermarket processes.

Daimler's investment in AI-driven forecasting reflects a larger industry trend of using technology to improve operational efficiencies and better serve consumers in a highly competitive market.
