Eicher Motors’ operating profit, also known as EBITDA, remained nearly unchanged at Rs 1,087.7 crore.

Key Highlights:

Eicher Motors Ltd, a well-known manufacturer of motorcycles, trucks, and buses, reported an 8% increase in net profit for the second quarter, despite a slight dip in Royal Enfield sales volumes. The company achieved a consolidated net profit of Rs 1,100.3 crore for this quarter, an improvement from Rs 1,016.3 crore recorded in the same period last year.

Flat Operating Profit and Narrowed Margins

Eicher Motors’ operating profit, also known as EBITDA, remained nearly unchanged at Rs 1,087.7 crore. The operating profit margin contracted slightly to 25.5% from last year’s 26.4%, indicating increased expenses impacting the margin.

Revenue from operations saw a modest growth of 3.6%, reaching Rs 4,263.07 crore. Meanwhile, total expenses for the quarter rose by 5.6% to Rs 3,368.5 crore, mainly due to higher costs of raw materials and components.

VE Commercial Vehicles Shows Strong Performance

VE Commercial Vehicles, a joint venture between Eicher Motors and the Volvo Group, reported impressive results this quarter. The revenue from VE Commercial Vehicles increased by 8% to Rs 5,538 crore, thanks to higher truck and bus volumes, which reached 20,774 units from last year’s 19,551 units.

The joint venture’s profit after tax also grew, standing at Rs 209 crore compared to Rs 187 crore in the previous year. The profit share from VE Commercial Vehicles improved, with Eicher Motors receiving Rs 113.75 crore this quarter, an increase from last year’s Rs 101.62 crore.

Royal Enfield Sales Decline but Other Income Supports Growth

Royal Enfield, a flagship brand of Eicher Motors, saw a decrease in sales volume. Royal Enfield's total sales decreased by 1.8%, reaching 2.25 lakh units, compared to the previous year. However, increased export volumes partially helped offset this decline in domestic sales.

The company's other income increased by 30%, totaling Rs 353.8 crore, which helped drive the overall profit growth for the quarter.

Management Commentary

Siddhartha Lal, Managing Director of Eicher Motors, praised the quarter's performance, stating, "VE Commercial Vehicles achieved its best-ever Q2, with increased market share in the truck segments. This is particularly noteworthy given the lower industry volumes compared to Q2 of the previous year."

CMV360 Says

Eicher Motors’ growth this quarter shows the company’s ability to perform well despite challenges in Royal Enfield’s domestic sales. The strong performance of VE Commercial Vehicles has improved overall profits, and the company’s focus on growing its share in the commercial vehicle market seems to be working.
