GreenLine and Bekaert launch LNG truck fleet to cut emissions and support India’s shift to a gas-based economy.

Key Highlights

GreenLine Mobility Solutions Ltd. has partnered with Bekaert, a global leader in tire reinforcement technologies, to introduce LNG-powered trucks in India. The trucks will handle logistics operations for Bekaert, starting from the company's Ranjangaon Plant as part of a pilot project.

Cutting Emissions with LNG Trucks

Each LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) truck used in the project can reduce up to 24 tonnes of CO₂ emissions every year. This move supports Bekaert’s long-term goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2050. The company also aims to generate 65% of its total sales from sustainable solutions.

Corporate Commitment to Sustainability

Anand Mimani, CEO of GreenLine, said,

Our partnership with Bekaert demonstrates the growing commitment of forward-thinking corporates to drive sustainability at scale. We offer not just green trucks, but an integrated ecosystem from LNG refuelling to real-time telematics.”

Dinesh Mukhedkar, Procurement Operations Lead for South Asia at Bekaert, added that this move aligns with their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) commitments.

Proven Impact and Future Expansion Plans

GreenLine, an Essar Group venture, has already covered over 40 million kilometers using its LNG truck fleet. This has helped prevent over 10,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions so far.

Looking ahead, GreenLine plans to expand its fleet to 10,000 LNG and electric vehicles. It will also develop a wide infrastructure network across India, including 100 LNG refueling stations, EV charging points, and battery swapping facilities.

LNG: A Cleaner Fuel for India’s Future

The transportation sector is one of the largest contributors to carbon emissions in India, especially from heavy commercial vehicles. LNG trucks offer a cleaner alternative with fewer particulate emissions, lower nitrogen oxide levels, and less noise compared to diesel trucks.

However, wider adoption of LNG vehicles still faces challenges like limited refueling stations and higher initial investment costs.

Bekaert’s Global Sustainability Vision

Bekaert employs 21,000 people around the world and reported €4.0 billion in sales in 2024. The Belgium-based company is known for its steel wire transformation and coating technologies. Its products are widely used in sustainable construction and clean energy applications.

India’s Push for a Gas-Based Economy

India is aiming to increase the share of natural gas in its total energy mix from 6% to 15% by 2030. Commercial transport is a key sector in this transition, and partnerships like GreenLine and Bekaert’s are expected to play an important role in cutting emissions and promoting cleaner fuel use.

This partnership marks a strong step toward sustainable logistics in India, showing how industry leaders are aligning with national goals for a cleaner, greener future.

CMV360 says

The GreenLine-Bekaert partnership highlights a strong move towards sustainable logistics in India. By using LNG trucks, both companies aim to cut emissions and support India’s cleaner fuel goals. This collaboration reflects the growing commitment of industries to adopt eco-friendly transport solutions and contribute to a greener future.
