JK Tyre has set a midterm goal of reducing its greenhouse gas (GHG) emission intensity by 50% by 2030, using 2019 as a reference year.

JK Tyre & Industries, one of India’s leading tyre manufacturers, has committed to using 100% renewable electricity by 2050. By joining the global RE100 initiative, JK Tyre becomes the first Indian tyre company and the 16th Indian business to make this pledge. The company aims to contribute to global sustainability efforts while reducing its environmental footprint.

To meet its renewable energy target, JK Tyre has set a midterm goal of reducing its greenhouse gas (GHG) emission intensity by 50% by 2030, using 2019 as a reference year. This goal is part of the company’s broader sustainability strategy, which includes efforts to comply with evolving climate regulations.

Industry Leaders Welcome JK Tyre's Move

Dr. Divya Sharma, India Executive Director of the Climate Group, welcomed JK Tyre’s decision to adopt 100% renewable electricity by 2050. She praised the company’s leadership in integrating renewable energy solutions within large-scale manufacturing, noting that it sets a strong example for other industries to follow.

Commitment to Sustainability

Dr. Raghupati Singhania, Chairman & Managing Director of JK Tyre, expressed pride in the company’s decision to join RE100. He highlighted the company's ongoing focus on energy efficiency and conservation as key drivers of their sustainability journey. 

Dr. Singhania emphasized that this move aligns with JK Tyre’s commitment to environmental responsibility and supports the company’s transition to renewable energy sources.

Progress in Renewable Energy and Sustainability

JK Tyre has been steadily increasing its use of renewable energy, with a 2-5% annual rise in renewable energy usage. As of now, 40% of the company’s total energy consumption comes from renewable sources. Additionally, since 2013-14, JK Tyre has successfully reduced its GHG emission intensity by 64%. 

The company has also reached environmental milestones at its manufacturing sites, such as achieving Zero Liquid Discharge, Zero-Waste-to-Landfill status, and eliminating single-use plastics.

RE100 and Its Global Impact

RE100 is a global initiative that brings together over 400 companies from different industries, all committed to transitioning to 100% renewable electricity. Led by the Climate Group in partnership with CDP, the initiative aims to drive large-scale adoption of renewable energy and accelerate the transition to a low-carbon future.
