He was also the cousin of Rahul Bajaj, the former chairman of the Bajaj Group, who passed away in 2022.

Madhur Bajaj studied at The Doon School and Sydenham College in Mumbai. Later, he earned his MBA from the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) in Switzerland. His education and vision played a big part in shaping the future of Bajaj Auto. He was the main leader during the rise of India’s two- and three-wheeler market. Under his guidance, Bajaj Auto grew into one of the country’s top vehicle manufacturers. Madhur Bajaj stepped down from his role as non-executive director and vice-chairman in January 2024. He made this decision due to his declining health, ending over two decades of service to the company’s board.

He was known for his deep understanding of the industry and his ability to guide businesses through change. Apart from his leadership at Bajaj Auto, he also contributed to several business bodies. He served as president of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) and the Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA). He was the chairman of Maharashtra Scooters Ltd and a board member at several group companies, including Bajaj Electricals and Bajaj Finance. He recently served as chairman of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Western Region and remained a National Council Member of the CII.
