The partnership between OSPL and Attero extends beyond India, covering the ASEAN and African regions as well.
Omega Seiki has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Attero for the purpose of recycling electric vehicle (EV) batteries. Under this agreement, Attero will repurpose the batteries from Omega Seiki for use in energy storage.
Over the next five years, Omega Seiki has plans to roll out more than 1 GWh of EV batteries. Alongside Attero, they have set a joint goal to recycle over 100 MWh of batteries within the next three to four years, as mentioned in their press release. This strategic partnership between Omega Seiki Pvt. Ltd. (OSPL) and Attero is not limited to India but also includes the ASEAN and African regions.
Attero operates a state-of-the-art facility capable of processing 145,000 metric tons of electronic waste and 11,000 metric tons of battery waste annually. They aim to increase this capacity to 15,000 metric tons by February 2024.
Uday Narang, the Founder and Chairman of Omega Seiki, expressed that their collaboration with Attero is intended to drive progress in EV technology and establish industry standards in responsible battery waste management.
Nitin Gupta, the CEO & Co-founder of Attero, highlighted that the incorrect disposal of lithium-ion battery recycling is not just an environmental hazard but also a missed opportunity to recover valuable materials.
Attero claims to be able to extract battery-grade metals such as cobalt, lithium carbonate, and graphite with an efficiency rate of 98%.
