Omega Seiki Mobility (OSM), a key player in the electric vehicle (EV) sector, has announced its plans to manufacture hydrogen-powered three-wheelers in India by the end of this financial year. This move is part of OSM's commitment to expand its clean energy offerings.

Collaboration for Development of Hydrogen-Powered Vehicles

OSM has partnered with Systemics to form Hydrogen Intelligence. Systemics is a joint venture that has already developed hydrogen-powered three-wheelers. The company is aiming to deploy 50 to 100 of these vehicles in pilot projects, working with various state governments to kick off the initiative. These vehicles have demonstrated an impressive range of 700 km on just a two kg hydrogen cylinder.

The hydrogen fuel cell technology used in these vehicles operates like a battery, but generates electricity continuously. A quick five-minute recharge with hydrogen, costing just €30 for two kg, powers the vehicle for over 700 km.

Groundbreaking Hydrogen Technology

According to Uday Narang, Chairman of OSM, this marks a significant innovation as the hydrogen-powered three-wheeler is the first of its kind in the world. "We have already tested these vehicles at Le Mans, France, where they covered 708 km in 24 hours," Narang said.

Manufacturing Plans and Expansion

Initially, OSM will use its Faridabad production facility to build these hydrogen-powered vehicles. The company is also setting up a new manufacturing plant near Chennai to cater to both domestic demand and export opportunities. The vehicles will first launch in Karnataka and expand to other states such as Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh.

Future Growth and Funding Plans

To support its expansion, OSM is in the process of raising Series B funding. This funding will be used to scale up production and accelerate the rollout of hydrogen-powered three-wheelers across India.

OSM's hydrogen-powered three-wheelers could change the future of transport in India. With a 700 km range on just 2 kg of hydrogen and quick refueling, these vehicles offer a practical and efficient alternative to traditional ones. These three-wheelers could help to make clean transportation more accessible and reliable across the country.
