Piaggio Vehicles Private Limited has introduced its latest offering, the Ape E-city FX NE Max, in the passenger electric three-wheeler segment.

Piaggio Vehicles Private Limited has launched their passenger electric three-wheeler - Ape E-city FX NE Max in Tamil Nadu for INR 3,46,240 ex-showroom.

While Piaggio has been successfully selling electric three-wheelers in the cargo segment in the state for over a year, the company has now secured the necessary approvals to introduce its passenger electric three-wheeler. This expansion marks a significant milestone, enabling Piaggio to establish a nationwide presence for its electric three-wheelers.

The Ape E-city FX NE Max has impressive features, including a substantial driving range of 145 kilometers on a single charge, making it ideal for urban and suburban commuting requirements. Additionally, it has a remarkable 20% gradeability, ensuring it can effortlessly navigate hilly terrains. Piaggio has also shown its commitment to customer satisfaction by offering a 3+2-year warranty or a 1.75-lakh-kilometer warranty, providing buyers with peace of mind.

As per Amit Sagar, Executive Vice President, CV Domestic Business & Retail Finance, the company is in discussions with the State Government, which provides the infrastructure, and battery swapping suppliers to establish swapping stations in Tamil Nadu. Though he has not given a specific date for when the battery switching stations will be operational, he stated that "it's like a fusion reaction," as seen in Kochi, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, and Vijayawada.

The company is associated with SUN Mobility and Exicom, both of which are owned by Reliance, to provide portable IP 67 batteries for E-Scooters, e-bikes, and light electric vehicles. The e3Ws with battery swapping are gaining popularity because the acquisition cost is 40 to 50% cheaper than the fixed battery version.

One distinguishing aspect of this launch in Tamil Nadu is that the Ape E-city FX NE Max is currently available with a fixed battery option. The swappable battery ecosystem, often seen as an advantage in other regions, is not yet available in the state. Nevertheless, the fixed battery option remains a reliable and efficient choice for customers, catering to their electric mobility needs.

Piaggio's entry into the passenger electric three-wheeler market is expected to further promote sustainable transportation solutions in Tamil Nadu, aligning with the state's commitment to cleaner and greener mobility.

Piaggio started its journey in the country with the debut of e3W in 2019, the company already has over 26,000 customers, the bulk of which are from Delhi, followed by Agra, Agartala, Bengaluru, Silchar, Kochi, and Jammu.
