Rapido, the Swiggy-backed Bengaluru-based ride-hailing app, has launched a state-wide safety campaign, #RapidoSafetyFirst, in which it is installing seatbelts in Bengaluru's auto-rickshaws.
According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, over 1.5 lakh people die on Indian roads each year. As part of this program, the firm is installing seat belts in Bengaluru auto-rickshaws to lessen the likelihood of accidents, fatalities, and injuries caused by sudden stops or crashes.
A four-step background verification process for its captains has also been implemented to ensure rider safety. It also employs a novel information-masking mechanism to safeguard the privacy and identification of female riders.
Rapido Auto has also established a number of safety precautions to ensure the safety of riders and passengers. These include mandated rider safety training, frequent vehicle maintenance checks, and real-time ride tracking to monitor safety compliance.
Rapido Auto Co-founder Pavan Guntupalli stated that the company also provides live ride tracking with access to granular latitudinal and longitudinal data and 24X7 on-ground support for shared trips.
Rapido has collaborated with city traffic police departments across India to perform safety awareness programs. These initiatives included CPR and basic life support training for their captains and a mime program to illustrate the importance of road safety at busy intersections in Gurgaon, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, Vijayawada, and Madurai.
