SUN Mobility and IndianOil have formed a joint venture to build battery-swapping infrastructure networks by 2030.

Over the next three years, the joint company plans to expand to over 10,000 battery-switching facilities in 40+ cities.

The joint venture combines IndianOil's network of over 37,000 petrol stations across the country with SUN Mobility's battery-swapping technology, making them as accessible as traditional filling stations.

According to the press statement, SUN Mobility already supports over 25,000 electric vehicles in 20 cities across India. They operate over 630 stations and manage 50,000+ smart batteries, performing over a million swaps per month for two and three-wheelers

Chetan Maini, Co-Founder & Chairman of SUN Mobility, stated, "SUN Mobility was established seven years ago to make electric vehicles cheap while also lowering range anxiety and charging time. Since then, we've developed the world's leading open architecture platform for battery swapping, which seamlessly supports diverse electric vehicle form factors from multiple OEMs and is being deployed globally in collaboration with the world's leading energy firms."

"Today, on World Environment Day, it gives me great pride to announce that together, we aim to transform mobility in India and create a benchmark for the world to follow," he added.
