SUN Mobility, known for its energy infrastructure and services for electric vehicles (EVs), has unveiled what it claims to be the world’s first modular battery-swapping technology designed specifically for Heavy Electric Vehicles (HEVs).

This breakthrough was announced at Prawaas 4.0, an international conference organized by the Bus & Car Operators Confederation of India (BOCI).

Partnership and New Buses

In collaboration with Veera Vahana, a Bangalore-based bus manufacturer, SUN Mobility introduced 10.5-meter battery-swappable buses aimed at intercity and mofussil routes. These new buses are part of the company's push to enhance EV infrastructure.

Cost and Efficiency Benefits

SUN Mobility's Smart Battery solution is versatile, catering to light, medium, and heavy trucks and buses with Gross Vehicle Weights (GVW) ranging from 3 tonnes to 55 tonnes.

The company claims that battery swapping could reduce the initial cost of buses by up to 40%, making them competitive with traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) buses. This potential cost saving, combined with improved access to financing, may encourage more fleet owners to adopt EVs.

Operational Advantages

The battery-swapping process takes less than three minutes, potentially cutting operational costs for fleet operators by up to 20%. Additionally, the compact and lightweight design of the battery allows for greater payload capacity.
