SWITCH Mobility, a Hinduja Group firm that manufactures next-generation carbon-neutral electric buses and light commercial vehicles, has delivered the first SWITCH Metrocity electric buses to Stagecoach. Stagecoach is one of the UK's largest bus and coach operators.

These first deliveries are part of a 20-bus contract from Stagecoach for two SWITCH Metrocity variants: the 8.7m for Walthamstow and the 9.5m for Lea Interchange.

''The UK electric bus market is experiencing steady growth, with volumes set to double in the next three years. We are thrilled to have delivered the first set of SWITCH Metrocitys to Stagecoach, one of our recognized customers in the UK, in accordance with SWITCH's aim to democratize zero-carbon mobility. This delivery is an important step in our journey to help Operators and Transport for London speed up the adoption of zero-emission mobility,'' said Mahesh Babu, Chief Executive Officer - of SWITCH Mobility.

Stagecoach is thrilled to welcome two more electric vehicle orders to the company's fleet, which will assist the company in meeting its goal of having a 100% electric bus fleet across the UK by 2035.

According to a Switch Mobility press release, the Metrocity e-buses are designed and developed with changeable seating arrangements and lengths. These buses are appropriate for urban, suburban, and rural routes. Surprisingly, it was the first British-built, all-electric bus to hit the streets of London in 2014.

The SWITCH Metrocity is one of the most efficient electric buses in its class, with the latest NMC battery technology. The Metrocity has just been upgraded with the newest NMC battery technology to give enhanced efficiency and an increased range of up to 170 miles.

Switch Mobility, originally started with Optare, is a popular bus manufacturer located in Sherburn-in-Elmet, Leeds, United Kingdom. Ashok Leyland is a parent company of this automotive company, and this subsidiary is mainly responsible for EV operations. Switch Mobility also focuses on diesel, CNG, and LNG-powered commercial vehicles. Despite being an Ashok Leyland subsidiary, Switch Mobility owns two subsidiary companies: Switch Mobility Automotive Ltd and OHM Global Mobility Pvt Ltd.
