Tata Motors, India's largest commercial vehicle manufacturer, recently produced its 9,00,000th vehicle at its cutting-edge Lucknow facility. The event included a flag-off ceremony at the plant, attended by Durga Shanker Mishra, Chief Secretary, Government of Uttar Pradesh, and top Tata Motors delegations.
The Lucknow plant includes a 6MW solar power plant, which greatly reduces its carbon footprint. The factory is complemented by ultra-modern automobile manufacturing stations, such as a robotic paint booth and a body-in-white shop with robotic spot welding, among other features.
Since its establishment in 1992, the factory has produced cargo and passenger commercial vehicles ranging from light to heavy and fuel cell to electric buses.
The Lucknow factory, which spans 600 acres, exemplifies Tata Motors' dedication to sustainable manufacturing techniques, having been certified as a water-positive plant by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
Durga Shanker Mishra, Chief Secretary, Government of Uttar Pradesh, stated, "This achievement demonstrates Tata Motors' critical role in offering advanced, safer, and greener mobility solutions to meet current and future needs. Furthermore, the company's commitment to women's empowerment, as seen by over 22% female presence among new hires this year, is a significant advancement for women in the manufacturing sector."
Mahesh Suguru, Plant Head - Lucknow, Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles, adding, "The completion of our 9,00,000th vehicle rollout from the Lucknow facility demonstrates our dedication to excellence and innovation. We have optimized our operations, streamlined workflows, and raised our manufacturing standards to provide outstanding automobiles that exceed customer expectations by incorporating cutting-edge technologies."
Vishal Badshah, Vice President and Head of Operations, Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles, stated, "The rollout of our 900,000th vehicle from the Lucknow factory is an iconic milestone for Tata Motors. This factory has been essential in the production of our innovative electric buses, and it has successfully delivered over 1200 units, totaling lakhs of kilometers across the country. Uttar Pradesh has been one of our main markets, and the state government's emphasis on infrastructure development has played an important role in increasing commercial vehicle sales."
Tata Motors sold 3,66,100 CVs in fiscal year 2024, accounting for 38% of total India sales. M&HCV and LCV wholesales totaled 967,878 units in FY2024, representing a flat sales rise of 0.56% over FY2023. While this was the sector's highest performance in five fiscal years, it is still 39,433 units short of its best-ever performance in FY2019, when it crossed a million units (10,07,311) for the first time.
