The Volvo Group, in collaboration with Narayana Health, has developed a cutting-edge mobile community clinic named 'Wellness on Wheels' to deliver free community screening and medical services in rural Karnataka and other states throughout the country.

Martin Lundstedt, President and CEO of Volvo AB, and Dr Devi Shetty, Chairman of Narayana Health, together inaugurated 'Wellness on Wheels' in Bengaluru. The firm believes that this mobile clinic will reach out to remote areas of the state and country, touching and protecting lives.

'Wellness on Wheels' is based on a cutting-edge Volvo Prime mover FM 4x2 with an automated I-shift transmission and specialized medical equipment. The vehicle incorporates air suspension and ABS brakes for a vibration-free ride to safeguard the sensitive medical equipment on board, in addition to a variety of active and passive safety precautions.

The mobile clinic has been particularly designed and outfitted with advanced screening technology for identifying cancer and heart illnesses, as well as non-invasive diagnostic tools including ultrasound, ECG, and X-ray scanners.

This truck is Wi-Fi connected and equipped with high-tech laptops specially built for doctors to offer remote contact and expert guidance on the go, allowing telemedicine and consultation with experts at the base Narayana Health Hospital in Bangalore. The 42-foot-long, specially-made large medical container includes a diagnostic lab and a chemical toilet with air conditioners, as well as an integrated generator and inverter. Canopies and chairs are supplied for patients waiting in the vehicle.

"We live in an interdependent world, within which care for people and our planet is a necessary condition," remarked Martin Lundstedt, President and CEO of Volvo Group, at the unveiling of the mobile clinic.

"Ailment diagnosis at a later stage makes treating and relieving a patient's condition more challenging, which is, unfortunately, the norm today. If we can make an early diagnosis, many lives could be saved. This mobile clinic will contribute to the establishment of a preventative healthcare culture while reaching out to the country's economically poor and underserved people, ultimately saving lives," said Dr Devi Prasad Shetty, Chairman of Narayana Health.
