Volvo Trucks Delivers its First Electric Truck to Brazil, Chile, and Uruguay

The electric versions of Volvo FH and Volvo FM have an impressive operational capacity, able to handle a total weight of 44 tonnes.

In a significant milestone for sustainable transportation, Volvo Trucks has successfully delivered eight heavy electric trucks to customers in Brazil, Chile, and Uruguay, marking the company's inaugural sales of zero-exhaust emission trucks in Latin America. This move aligns with Volvo Trucks' ongoing commitment to expanding its footprint in new markets with its innovative battery electric trucks.

This achievement signifies Volvo's foray into the Latin American heavy-duty electric truck market, with the initial deliveries benefiting customers in Brazil, Chile, and Uruguay. Notably, this achievement highlights Volvo's global impact, having previously delivered electric trucks to customers on six continents and in 45 countries.

The increasing interest among transport companies in Brazil, Chile, and Uruguay to transition towards more sustainable heavy transport methods is evident in these groundbreaking orders. Brazil holds importance for Volvo Trucks, having witnessed the delivery of 26,159 trucks to customers in 2022.

Wilson Lirmann, President of Volvo Trucks Latin America, expressed enthusiasm about the company's role in supporting the electrification journey of its customers. "Many haulers in Latin America have high ambitions regarding zero-emission truck transport. We are very proud and excited to have been chosen to support our customers as they begin their electrification journey. We believe that more transport companies will soon follow," said Lirmann.

In Brazil, Reiter Log, one of the largest logistics operators in the country, is set to deploy five Volvo FM Electric trucks on various routes. These trucks will be rented through Volvo Financial Services.

Meanwhile, in Chile, leading companies SQM and El Libertador have incorporated a Volvo FH Electric truck into their fleets. In Uruguay, Bitafal will be utilizing a Volvo FM Electric for its operations.

As the global transition to sustainable transport gains momentum, Volvo Trucks' landmark delivery in Latin America reinforces the company's commitment to driving the future of electric mobility.

In 2019, Volvo Trucks was the first global manufacturer to begin serial manufacturing of electric trucks. It now has a diverse fleet of six electric vehicles capable of executing a wide range of transport assignments, including city distribution and garbage processing, regional transport, and construction work. Volvo Trucks aims for 50% of global new Volvo truck sales to be electrified by 2030.
