Volvo Trucks is the first worldwide truck manufacturer to begin series production of big 44-ton electric trucks.

Volvo Trucks is currently starting a series manufacturing of big electric 44-ton trucks as demand for electric trucks rises due to logistics companies' requirement to fulfil emissions targets.

Volvo will be the first worldwide truck manufacturer to build 44-ton electric trucks, with three models available: Volvo FH, Volvo FM, and Volvo FMX. Volvo Trucks now has six electric truck types in series production around the world, thanks to these additional acquisitions.

"This is a watershed moment that demonstrates that we are driving the industry's transformation. We debuted our large electric trucks for the first time less than two years ago. We are now scaling up production and will deliver these fantastic trucks to customers all around Europe, as well as customers in Asia, Australia, and Latin America," said Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks.

Series manufacturing of Volvo's biggest electric trucks will begin in Gothenburg, Sweden, followed by Ghent, Belgium, the following year. Volvo manufactures electric trucks on the same assembly line as conventional trucks, providing considerable production flexibility and efficiency improvements. Volvo Trucks' new battery manufacturing plant in Ghent supplies the batteries.

"We have sold over 1,000 big electric trucks and over 2,600 electric trucks in total. Volumes are expected to skyrocket in the next years. By 2030, at least half of the trucks we sell internationally should be electric," Alm continued.
Volvo Trucks' electric truck lineup of six models covers a wide range of applications, including municipal distribution and garbage handling, regional transportation, and construction work.

Volvo Trucks' broad range of medium and heavy-duty trucks provides complete transport solutions for demanding professional customers. A global network of dealers with 2,200 service sites in about 130 countries provides customer support. Volvo trucks are built in 13 countries across the world. In 2021, around 123,000 Volvo trucks will be delivered globally. Volvo Trucks is a subsidiary of the Volvo Group, a global manufacturer of trucks, buses, construction equipment, and marine and industrial engines. The group also offers complete finance and service options. The work of Volvo Trucks is founded on the key values of quality, safety, and environmental stewardship.

The firm supplies a total of six battery-electric trucks, including the two smaller Volvo FL Electric and Volvo FE Electric, as well as the North American semi Volvo VNR Electric. According to Volvo Trucks, this is the industry's most comprehensive electric truck inventory.
