The first hydrogen bus in India arrived in Leh, after a three-month process of field trials, roadworthiness checks, and other legislative procedures.

India's first hydrogen-powered bus has been unveiled and deployed on the public roads of Leh. The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), a leading energy conglomerate, takes the lead in this green initiative, marking a significant step forward in India's efforts to reduce carbon emissions and promote cleaner modes of transport.
The first hydrogen bus in India arrived in Leh, after a three-month process of field trials, roadworthiness checks, and other legislative procedures. This will be India's first public-road deployment of hydrogen buses.
The deployment of the hydrogen bus in the challenging terrains of Leh holds special significance. The high-altitude region, known for its pristine beauty and fragile ecosystem, often experiences air pollution due to the influx of tourists and vehicular emissions.
The introduction of the hydrogen bus is expected to set a precedent for sustainable tourism and cleaner mobility solutions in ecologically sensitive areas.
An exclusive 1.7 MW solar power plant is located next to the world's first green hydrogen mobility project at 11,562 feet. The fuel cell buses are designed to operate in sub-zero temperatures in rarefied atmospheres, which are typical of such high-altitude locales, making this project unique.
NTPC has pledged to achieve 60 GW of renewable energy generation by 2032, as well as being a prominent participant in Green Hydrogen Technology and Energy Storage. Hydrogen blending, carbon capture, EV buses, Smart NTPC Townships, and other decarbonization efforts are being implemented by the firm.

With this groundbreaking initiative, NTPC not only contributes to the global fight against climate change but also establishes itself as a leader in the adoption of innovative, sustainable technologies.
The NTPC's foray into hydrogen-powered transportation aligns with India's broader vision of transitioning to a hydrogen-based economy. The corporation's commitment to innovation and sustainability is expected to pave the way for further advancements in hydrogen technology and infrastructure.
