Premier Ltd. (previously known as The Premier Automobiles Limited) is a Mumbai-based Indian automobile manufacturer. The Walchand Group owns the company. Walchand Hirachand founded Premier Automobiles Ltd. (PAL) in 1944 with Sir. M. Visvesvaraya's encouragement and backing. Walchand-Phatak Co. was established in 1903. TATA Constructions was later added to the name. Following TATA's leave, the company's name was changed to Premier, which was engaged in contract and building activities. Premier Ltd. produced the first Indian-made trucks and cars that rolled out onto the streets of a liberated India in October 1947. Premier is well-known for its Premier Padmini, which dominated the Indian car market throughout the 1970s and 80s. The company was founded in 1941 and secured rights with Chrysler Corporation to construct a Plymouth car and a Dodge truck, which were sold under the Dodge, Plymouth, DeSoto, and Fargo brand names beginning in 1949.
