Key Highlights:
The Delhi government is ready to launch 76 electric buses from the Ghazipur depot starting today, according to transport department officials. This move is aimed at strengthening last-mile transport and promoting eco-friendly travel in the city.
Launch Under the Delhi Electric Vehicle Interchanges (DEVI) Project
The new fleet will be a part of the Delhi Electric Vehicle Interchanges (DEVI) initiative. These electric buses will mainly serve to connect metro stations and major Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus routes. Each bus is expected to travel around 12 kilometres per day.
New Branding and Improved Services
The electric bus service was earlier known as the Mohalla Bus Service during the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) rule. The newly elected BJP-led administration has rebranded it as 'DEVI' and made improvements to enhance the commuter experience and make urban transport more efficient.
Bus Routes and Coverage
The first group of electric buses will operate on several important routes:
In addition, officials mentioned that Nangloi and East Vinod Nagar depots are also getting ready to start DEVI bus services soon.
Plan to Expand Based on Demand
After facing several delays, the service is finally set to start. Officials said that most bus routes have already been decided, and more will be added later based on the response from passengers. A transport department official explained that the goal is to run smaller buses on short routes that connect interior parts of the city to main roads. These buses are better suited for narrow lanes where larger buses cannot operate easily.
Special Event to Mark the Launch
Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa shared that the city received a “special gift” as the new electric buses began operations. Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav has attended the launch event.

CMV360 Says
This move will make daily travel easier for many people, especially in areas where bigger buses cannot go. It will also promote clean transport in the city. If the service is reliable and regular, it can become a strong support system for Delhi's public transport.
