Yokohama, India – In a groundbreaking achievement, announced that over 1000 women are now actively contributing to the operations on the shop floors of its factories across India. This milestone reflects the unwavering commitment of the company to fostering gender diversity and inclusivity within its workforce. Yokohama Group manages four factories in India, with one dedicated to Passenger Car tyres and three focusing on manufacturing Off-highway tyres.
Anil Gupta, Vice Chairman of Yokohama India, stated that this achievement was a milestone for the company's operations in India. He added by saying, "During this celebration day, we remain solid to our mission of promoting the creation of a society who sees people’s culture not as different things but only as a single community in which all members have their roles and rights. The 1000 women who now put the wheel of this factory are an example, we hope that this inspires other people like them to break barriers and follow their dreams."
Gupta highlighted the company's evolving efforts, stating, "Our first women recruitment drive was for the commercial Truck Bus Radial (TBR) Unit at our Dahej plant in 2018. We were pioneers in the TBR segment, having a women-only TBR Unit. From operating machinery to quality control, these skilled women have demonstrated their expertise, resilience, and dedication to excellence."
Contrary to the general perspective, 1000+ women doing the manual labour in the factory shop come from small places like Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand and some other states such as Kerala, Madhya Pradesh (MP), Odisha, Punjab, etc. The business functions they perform can be discerned to be among many which include production, quality control, and logistics. In these roles they are effective in the areas of machine operating, team leading, technician work, and supervision, to mention just a few.
Anil Gupta stressed about maintaining safety compliance, preventing injuries completely, time losing, and involving women actively in continuous improvement projects as the reasons they created a safe space for women on the shop floor.
Through targeted recruitment efforts, comprehensive training programs, and robust support systems, Yokohama in India has empowered women to bloom in roles across its manufacturing operations. The company's longstanding dedication to fostering an environment of equality and opportunity has diligently worked to create pathways for women to excel in a traditionally male-dominated industry. This achievement not only marks a milestone for Yokohama but also sets an inspiring example for other industries to embrace diversity and inclusivity in the workforce.
