Key Highlights:
GreenLine Mobility Solutions Ltd., a company under the Essar Group, announced a major investment of $275 million to push clean trucking solutions in India. The company is known for running India’s only LNG and electric-powered heavy trucks. A main part of this funding comes from entrepreneur Nikhil Kamath, who contributed $20 million to support the company’s plans.
Plans for Expansion
With this investment, GreenLine plans to deploy over 10,000 LNG and electric trucks across India. In addition, the company will build a national network of 100 LNG refueling points, EV charging hubs, and battery swapping stations. This step aims to cut down 1 million tonnes of carbon emissions every year from India’s transport sector.
GreenLine’s Progress So Far
GreenLine already runs a fleet of over 650 LNG-powered trucks. These trucks have traveled more than 38 million kilometers, avoided around 10,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions. The company says that its LNG trucks produce up to 30% less carbon than diesel vehicles. Plus, they offer these green services at the same cost as regular diesel trucks, so customers don’t have to spend extra to go green.
LNG refueling stations across India
To support the green trucks, GreenLine’s partner company, Ultra Gas and Energy Ltd., will build LNG refueling stations across India. These stations will help maintain and grow the eco-friendly logistics network.
India’s Need for Clean Trucking
India has more than 4 million trucks on its roads, making the transport sector one of the largest sources of pollution. Currently, about 15% of the nation’s carbon emissions come from this sector. GreenLine’s clean trucking initiative supports the government’s aim to lower greenhouse gases and shift towards greener fuel options.
Leadership Insights:
Essar Group Director Anshuman Ruia said this is a key moment for India’s transport industry. He mentioned that the goal isn’t just to build cleaner trucks but also to eventually use clean energy sources to power them. He believes this move will help lower emissions, reduce oil imports, and push India closer to energy security and sustainability.
Anand Mimani, CEO of GreenLine Mobility, emphasized that the company has always been leading the shift to clean trucking in India. He welcomed more companies to support this change, urging India Inc. to back the shift to green transport for a better future.
Investor’s Perspective
Investor Nikhil Kamath shared his thoughts, saying the logistics industry must improve, becoming faster and cleaner. He believes green transport isn’t just a trend but the way forward. According to him, companies should act quickly and use new green technologies to change how goods are moved.

GreenLine’s smart move seems like a turning point for India’s trucking industry. It’s not just about large numbers or flashy announcements, this shows that clean transport is becoming real and possible. The initiative aims to reduce oil imports, promote energy security, and push for a clean logistics future in India.
